Gap Year Courses
For students planning to step out of formal education for a year, the John Locke Institute runs gap year courses. Our visiting scholars programme, from September till November, is an eleven-week course in Oxford, Washington D.C., New York and Princeton, during which students can follow a bespoke curriculum under the supervision of distinguished academics from Oxford, Harvard, Brown, Yale, NYU, Princeton, Columbia and Georgetown. Students can choose to do one part of the course or all. Much of the gap year programmes are tailored to the student and his or her subject interests with a strong emphasis on the humanities and social sciences.
“The John Locke Gap Year course was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable and academically stimulating experiences of my life. During my time there I was introduced to eclectic array of new concepts, ideas and people. I was endlessly challenged across a wide variety of topics and continuously pressured to develop my critical thinking skills. As a result, I became more analytically minded, more familiar with a wide range of theory and infinitely more confident in my abilities. I am also forever in debt to the John Locke Institute for the pivotal role it played in my application process, and admission to, Oxford University.”
